Life lessons

05/06/2018

Welcome to Artefact Motherhood. This is a collaboration of artists from around the world who have come together to share our stories of the joys and struggles in our journeys. Through our writings and photographs, we want to create memories that are more than photographs with dates written on the back. These are the artefacts we are leaving behind for our children and for generations to come.

I love to be near nature if possible, every weekend to just relax and rejuvenate. Listening to the birds chirping and the soft wind blowing against my face just brings calmness to my soul. I love to ponder on life and think about all the things that have been sent my way. I am really grateful for each of them. Some days are good and some are ok. I just need to focus on the good. And the rest, they served as a lesson for me in a way I cannot explain.

Whenever we are out exploring, we always feel good inside afterward. And that particular day, you were really happy that we decided to explore the waterfall situated in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. The waterfall is called Ulu Bendol Recreation Site. We were really lucky that day as it was fasting month and the place was pretty quiet except for a few families having a picnic near the waterfall. The water was really cold and very refreshing. At first, you were afraid to go in. You said that there are probably crocodiles in the water waiting for you. I think you watched too many National Geographic with your father and you started to imagine things. I told you not to be afraid. Crocodiles live far away from here. Plus, the water is not so deep. And probably Mr. Crocodile is sleeping at the moment with his family. You look at my face and laugh. Like I said something silly.

Can you please hold my hand so I won’t be afraid, you said while reaching out for my hand.

And my heart just melted.

I never want to forget this moment.

You see, I regret those days when I was a young mother, divorced with three small kids. I was unprepared and emotionally unstable. I was busy searching for happiness when the truth is happiness is right in front of you, waiting to be discovered. You just have to look hard to be able to see it. Never regret your past. It helped shape who you are today.

Please check out the next artist,  Carla Monge in our blog circle at and continue through all the artists until you get back to me!

Your words are so very true and so very wise. I had beaming smile as I read the story of the crocodile. The moment you’ve captured, as you’re holding his hand. I wouldn’t want to forget that either. Beautifully done friend.

Oh Min, your last paragraph made me catch my breath. I think that truly is one of the greatest lessons in life, so often what we are busy searching for is truly right in front of us, but often it takes time for us to notice it. I am so happy to be embarking on this meaningful project with you <3

Oh Carla, glad you can relate. It’s really true right. So now I’m practicing and really going slowly to observe better. Thanks so much my friend!
